The Technologist II - POC, Accessioning, and Phlebotomy is the professional lead in their area responsible for providing expert advice to service users.
Under the direction of the area supervisor, perform daily activities of the POC, Accessioning and Phlebotomy accurately and on time. Maintains a safe and professional environment.
The Technologist II - POC, Accessioning, and Phlebotomy must be capable of performing, teaching and monitoring all functions within the laboratory including but not limited to POC testing, scheduling, specimen collection, labeling, receipt, processing, delivery and archiving.
This individual has the responsibility for working and communicating with various health professionals as need to complete tasks on a daily basis.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides specialist technical advice on POC and or specimen handling to clinicians, surgeons and nursing staff.
Monitors quality control of POC, Reception, and Phlebotomy lab and data entry, along with, routine equipment maintenance.
Ensures departmental policies/procedures are followed.
Assists the Supervisor in the implementation of management decisions affecting the sections.
Maintains co-operation between the sections and between disciplines by regular communication with other section leads and senior staff.
Answers enquiries and communicates patient results to clinicians, surgeons and nursing staff both internally and externally.
In liaison with the Supervisor, ensures adequate stocks of reagents and consumables are available for the efficient running of the service.
Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing the laboratory's strict procedures for POC, and for Phlebotomy collection, handling and processing.
Maintains implements, adheres to and enforces departmental operating policies and procedures to include all programs, quality control, quality assurance and safety.
Actively participates in the technical work of the section.
Performs blood collection (venipuncture, finger stick), as needed.
Implements cross training of all POC, Reception, Phlebotomy personnel where needed.
Undertakes routine daily in-lab problem solving.
Answers enquiries and communicates patient results to clinicians, surgeons and nursing staff both internally and externally Maintains records and procedures determined by CAP, JCI, CLIA and management.
Monitors the recording of all statistical information.
Ensures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance with the approved Sidra guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS - SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL
Education Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences/Clinical Laboratories or other relevant program
Experience 5+ years' experience as a POC Specialist and or Phlebotomist, Including 3+ years in a senior position
Certification and Licensure
License in the country of origin or country of practice
Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar
Job Specific Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of CAP/ ISO 15189/JCI standards and guidelines
Strong knowledge of medical terminology , abbreviations
Demonstrated knowledge of established phlebotomy procedures, practices, and protocols
Demonstrated Skills in efficient and effective draws
Demonstrated ability to work in stressful conditions
Demonstrated ability to appropriately address patients of various levels
Demonstrated leadership skills
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Fluency in written and spoken English
Sidra Medicine is a 400-bed women's and children's hospital, medical education and biomedical research center in Doha, Qatar. The hospital first opened its outpatient facility in 2016, followed by its inpatient hospital in January 2018. Qatar Foundation, a quasi-government organization, allotted a massive $7.9 billion budget for the hospital's construction. It first selected the center's contractors in 2008 but in 2014 assigned new contractors to complete the project. Biomedical research first began at Sidra in 2015. Outpatient care facilities and services were inaugurated in May 2016; as of 2018 there are at least 50 outpatient facilities. Throughout 2017, more than 25,000 people were treated at the hospital's outpatient clinic. On 14 January 2018, Sidra launched its inpatient hospital with 400 beds, treating 10 patients on its initial day of opening. The hospital is expected to become fully commissioned sometime in 2018, after the construction of an emergency department and the addition of further services.
