Specialist Cardiac Surgeon

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive cardio-thoracic surgical care to all patients, including pre- and post-operative care and relevant surgical procedures within the scope of expertise.

• Assume responsibility for after-hours care of cardio-thoracic cases and conduct daily rounds for hospitalized patients.

• Offer consultation services to physicians, surgeons, and other specialists as required.

• Order diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, interpret results, and prescribe appropriate therapy.

• Determine patient eligibility for admission and identify the need for tests or follow-up visits.

• Support Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives within the department.

• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills when interacting with department staff, associates, and management.

• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and administrative matters.

• Exhibit dependability in fulfilling job commitments and obligations.

• Listen actively to promote effective communication within the team.

• Develop a thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures and adhere to them.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.

• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures.

• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions.

• Familiarize oneself with emergency and evacuation procedures.

• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues and assist in preparing risk assessments and incident reports.

• Adhere to waste management procedures and policies.

• Attend relevant OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness sessions.

• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver comprehensive cardio-thoracic surgical care, including pre- and post-operative management.

• Take responsibility for cardio-thoracic cases after hours and conduct regular hospital rounds.

• Provide consultations to medical professionals and specialists as needed.

• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe appropriate treatment.

• Assess patient eligibility for admission and recommend follow-up care.

• Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

• Maintain effective communication with department staff and management.

• Ensure confidentiality of patient information and administrative matters.

• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.

• Fulfill any additional duties assigned by the department head.

• Follow OSH and infection control protocols and procedures.

• Participate in training programs and drills related to safety and infection control.

• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited medical school with an MBBS degree.

• Completion of an approved medical internship and residency program (one year of internship and three years of residency).

• Certification by the American Board of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons or membership in the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent certification).
