Job Description

The Ophthalmologist is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions related to Ophthalmology. This role requires adherence to medical staff bylaws, hospital policies, and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality patient care in all aspects of Ophthalmology as per approved clinical privileges.

  • Offer consultation services for inpatient and emergency room cases, responding promptly within the prescribed timeframe.

  • Ensure timely completion, accuracy, and eligibility of medical records.

  • Provide on-call service, ensuring availability and response time per hospital policy.

  • Conduct daily morning rounds to identify patients ready for discharge and ensure discharge orders are written 24 hours prior to discharge.

  • Perform any other clinical responsibilities related to Ophthalmology as assigned.

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Provide orientation, bedside training, and supervision to interns, residents, and fellows.

  • Participate in the department’s educational activities and training programs.

  • Partake in national and international medical conferences.

  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and meet continuing education requirements.

Research Responsibilities:

  • Engage in clinical, basic, and translational research projects as per Research Advisory Council Policy.

  • Contribute to advancing knowledge, improving postgraduate education quality, and enhancing the national and international recognition of KFSH&RC.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Undertake administrative duties assigned by the Head of Section or Chairman.

  • Participate in mandatory departmental activities and serve on departmental and hospital committees.

  • Assist in developing and implementing techniques and practices to optimize resource utilization within the department and across KFSH&RC.

  • Abide by hospital and medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies, and stay updated on any changes.


Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of required training in the specialty and/or subspecialty.

  • Board certification or equivalent in Ophthalmology from recognized entities such as Arab or American Boards, membership and/or fellowship status in the UK or Canada.

Experience Requirements:

  • Seven (7) years of training in specialty or subspecialty.

  • Postgraduate training experience must equal or exceed seven (7) years in the subspecialty.

  • Evidence of scientific productivity during the postdoctoral training period, including first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Proven records of presenting original data at national or international meetings.

  • Evidence of mentoring ability and supervisory skills to students and technical staff.
