Job Description
General Responsibilities:
1. To implement and supervise a comprehensive student health program.
2. Provide ongoing medical, health maintenance and/or instruction, and furnish necessary first aid services to students.
3. The promotion of health education, care, counseling and crisis intervention to all students, parents and staff. Specific Responsibilities:
1. Maintains health files and records of all students as required by Kuwait law and school procedures. Updates and follows up on immunization records. Assists the Ministry of Health on any vaccination campaign.
2. Submits a purchase order for all needed health supplies and medicine. Informs the Superintendent of any eventual needs during the year. Ensures that the clinic is fully stocked at all times.
3. Is responsible for the hygiene and housekeeping of the clinic, bed sheets, and sterilization of equipment and other related health requirements.
4. Generates an updated list of students that who require special medical attention or intervention when needed. Provides list to Principals, counselors, teachers and Campus Supervisor. Ensures that respective teachers are informed of procedure to be taken with each case.
5. Administers an annual check-up for all students during the first quarter of the academic school year and updates health files accordingly. The annual check-up includes screening for visual impairment, lice check, development of child in height and weight, and assists a visiting dentist in a dental check-up for cavities.
6. Reports to the Principals, Superintendent, and the parents any school-wide or citywide health problems or communicable diseases and recommends appropriate action.
7. Maintain the Principals, Superintendent, and Operations Manager informed of any visits from the Ministry of Education or Ministry of Health along with copies of any reports provided to the ministries.
8. Plans individually and with teachers to provide meaningful health education for students, custodial staff, and other workers.
9. Provides Principals and teachers with an updated list of all students who require special medical attention (i.e., students who suffer from asthma, diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
10. Conduct school health services with students including screening for physical examinations, immunizations, hearing and vision tests, and dental clinics.
11. Refer students who are in need of medical and dental care to parents.
12. Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical/health matters, including suspected child neglect and abuse.
13. Participate with school staff in developing a total school health program and maintain close working relationships with other health care providers in the community.
14. Advise on modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students (i.e., classroom placement of hearing or vision impaired students).
15. Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious diseases in accordance with Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and school policy.
16. Order and inventory school health-care materials and supplies.
17. Ensures that all students and teachers are informed regarding the procedures to follow in case of injury or illness and situations, which warrant medical attention and/or concerns of the parents.
18. Provides necessary first-aid treatment, necessary assistance to diabetic or students who have asthma. Maintains readily available medical equipment and supplies.
19. Coordinates with the counselor on students who show excessive medical complaints (headaches, stomachaches).
20. Reports to Superintendent and respective principal any sign of home negligence or child abuse.
21. Administers medications as directed by physicians and/or approved by the parents of the child.
22. Maintains a record of any accidents occurring during the school day along with actions taken to remedy the situation. Prepares and submits accident reports with full details to the Principal, Superintendent, and Health & Safety Officer.
23. Attends seminars to remain up-to-date on current health issues.
24. Performs other health-related duties or health instruction as directed by the Principals, Superintendent, and/or Health & Safety Officer.
