Project Director

Role Purpose

• Project directors have overall responsibility for the successful conclusion of construction projects.

• Leads a team of PMC, contractors, developers, designers, engineers, and other professionals who are essential to a project's success.

• Monitor and report on project milestones, such as financial and programmatic ones.

• Develop strategic and operational plans for each of the projects.

• Responsible for project implementation, and administrative oversight, monitoring, reporting, and evaluating the project.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing Project Managers/Senior Managers, who coordinate teams to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget, to a high standard.

Project directors provide leadership to strategically manage risk, monitor progress and ensure each phase of work is started and/or completed on time.

The Director has the following responsibilities:

• Ensure strict adherence to safety and regulatory compliance in all construction activities.

• Collaborate with design/construction teams for project feasibility and value optimization.

• Develop Project Execution Plans and effective contracts to guide implementation teams.

• Oversee project teams, including contractors and consultants, driving performance and efficiency.

• Conduct daily/weekly progress reviews and decision-making to minimize delays and meet project KPIs.

• Report on construction progress, schedules, costs, and quality, and update work plans and trackers.

• Oversee scheduling, tracking of deliverables, and cost estimation for in-depth project management and anticipate, identify, and solve emerging construction issues.

• Maintain high-quality construction standards and methods.

• Recommends changes to a project that is ongoing if it appears it is not proceeding on schedule or is producing unsatisfactory results.

• Develops an alternate course of action for completing a job should the initial plan fail.

• Ensure successful project completion and handover to asset owner/manager.

• Conduct post-project team reviews to learn from experience and improve future projects.

• Makes presentations to investors, business partners and company executives concerning different phases of a project.

• Handle contract negotiations, permitting, risk management, and in change management processes.

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Substantial work experience in construction, including at least 5 years in a senior role with major construction companies.

• At least 10 years of experience in the Gulf Region working on major projects / within large Program Management Offices.

• Demonstrated success in delivering complex, high-value construction projects.

• Extensive understanding of all aspects of construction implementation.

• Proven experience in construction feasibility studies and project planning.

• Ability to analyze and solve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.

• Competence in negotiating and resolving conflicts.

• Experience leading and managing high-performing teams, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

• Ability to work well in a team, educate others, understand complex technical subjects and able to foster a sense of team spirit within different departments.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

• Good leadership, management, and supervisory skills.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.

• Advanced Construction Management Knowledge: Deep understanding of construction management processes, methods, and software packages.
