Job Description

Calo, founded in Bahrain in November 2019, is dedicated to making healthy living easy by leveraging technology to provide better, faster, and more affordable access to food. As Calo transitions into an international scale-up, there is a need to strengthen its systems for growth and enhance the employee experience.

Why This Role: Calo seeks a passionate leader to drive the transformation of its People Operations function. This role presents an opportunity to challenge conventional HR norms, inspire excellence, and foster a 10/5 star employee experience.

Scope of Role:

  1. People Partnering:

    • Build robust people partnering systems and up-skill existing team members on effective department/country partnerships.

    • Lead the largest vertical of the People & Culture department, overseeing 13 employees across different countries.

    • Champion an empathy-first approach to employee relations and cultivate a team culture aligned with this ethos.

  2. Building a Center of Excellence:

    • Establish a center of excellence and support function for all business units, covering areas from benefits management to compliance and governance.

    • Elevate strategic thinking through KPI setting, monitoring processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  3. Local Country Strategy and Governance:

    • Collaborate with local teams to develop and execute country-specific strategies and agendas.

    • Provide guidance on localizing the employee experience while maintaining the authentic Calo culture.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 5-10 years of experience in People Operations with a background in regional teams.

  • Strong understanding of labor laws in the GCC, with the ability to quickly grasp regulations in new markets.

  • Proven track record in team management and fostering effective team cultures.

  • Design systems and processes with an empathy-driven approach.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in conveying company policies.

  • Passionate about creating a work culture focused on employee well-being and fairness.

Additional Information: This role is primarily based in Bahrain and may require frequent travel to support local teams. Calo is willing to support relocation for interested candidates not currently based in Bahrain.

Launched in November 2019, Calo is on a mission to make healthy easy. We’re a team of dedicated people driving this mission by providing better, faster, and cheaper ways to access food through technology.
