KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performs venipuncture, capillary, and/or intravenous specimen collection from study subjects according to established procedures, maintaining aseptic technique, using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles, and obtains additional assistance when judged necessary.
Performs other specimen collections (i.e. saliva, swabbing etc.)
Interacts with subjects to obtain information for laboratory records, explains procedures, allays fears and elicits cooperation.
Utilizes standard procedures for the maintenance of positive subjects' identification and records appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.
Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times. Ensures specimens collection according to approved protocols, and the collected specimens are properly labeled and suitable for subsequent analysis by Research Laboratory staff.
Ensures that all the tests required to be performed, are done in compliance with the protocols.
Maintains inventory of supplies and re-order as required. Stocks supplies on carts and hand trays for easier transition to other locations. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Responds to questions/queries and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions, specimen requirements, and test additions, priority changes (from routine to STAT and vice versa).
Ensures quality control, quality assurance and maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
Keeps excellent recording keeping skills, using paper and electronic methods.
Works under the general supervision and administrative direction from the appropriate Team Leader, as well as direction and supervision of the Research Project Manager and Principal Investigator, or designee, as required.
Ensures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance as applicable with ISO 9001, ISO 17021 or ISO 15189 standards and JCI and CAP guidelines.
Prepares samples for delivery to the requestor/Customer for internal transportation or shipment as appropriate.
Completes and keeps up to date on role-required trainings.
Maintains calm, professional atmosphere on study floor and with all interpersonal communications within colleagues, subjects, and customers
Provides technical guidance to Phlebotomy students/trainees assigned to work area.
Adheres to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS - SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL PREFERRED
Education
Vocational Diploma in Biomedical
Sciences/ Clinical Laboratories
Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science
Experience 2+ years as a Phlebotomy technician /Phlebotomist including 1+ years relevant Pediatric/Neonatal experience4+ years of experience as Phlebotomy technician / Phlebotomist including 1+ years relevant Pediatric/Neonatal experience.Experience with children with special developmental and medical needs.
Middle East work experience
Certification and Licensure
Licensure in country of origin Eligible to be licensed in State of Qatar Specialty (ASCP) or FIBMSUK) or equivalent as a phlebotomist

Strong knowledge of medical \ terminology and abbreviations.

Proficiency in common computer applications

Sidra Medicine is a 400-bed women's and children's hospital, medical education and biomedical research center in Doha, Qatar. The hospital first opened its outpatient facility in 2016, followed by its inpatient hospital in January 2018. Qatar Foundation, a quasi-government organization, allotted a massive $7.9 billion budget for the hospital's construction. It first selected the center's contractors in 2008 but in 2014 assigned new contractors to complete the project. Biomedical research first began at Sidra in 2015. Outpatient care facilities and services were inaugurated in May 2016; as of 2018 there are at least 50 outpatient facilities. Throughout 2017, more than 25,000 people were treated at the hospital's outpatient clinic. On 14 January 2018, Sidra launched its inpatient hospital with 400 beds, treating 10 patients on its initial day of opening. The hospital is expected to become fully commissioned sometime in 2018, after the construction of an emergency department and the addition of further services.
