Job Description

The ACCESS Center at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Research Assistant to conduct simulations of ocean mesoscale plankton using the CROCO ocean model. You will analyze data and investigate resolution-dependent biases in plankton growth and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, run, and analyze data from ocean simulations using the CROCO model.

  • Implement simple NPZD and iron-limited plankton models alongside the physical model.

  • Analyze biases in simulated plankton growth rate, productivity, and phenology at different resolutions.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including researchers and faculty.

  • Utilize NYUAD's Jubail supercomputer for simulations.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a STEM field (obtained by September 2024) with a strong math and computational background.

  • Coursework in:

    • Numerical Modeling (or equivalent) - Required

    • Multivariable Calculus (highly desirable)

    • Linear Algebra (highly desirable)

    • Basic Programming (highly desirable)

    • Algorithms and Data Structures (highly desirable)

  • Experience setting up and running large scientific numerical models (e.g., coursework, research projects).

  • Prior experience with general circulation ocean models (preferred).
