The Compliance Director
Plays a pivotal role in ensuring that LaunchGood operates within the bounds of relevant regulations and ethical standards. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures to manage risks, particularly in areas such as anti-money laundering, sanctions, and government compliance. The role involves extensive oversight, monitoring, and reporting to maintain a high level of compliance across the organization.The role requires deep expertise in compliance regulations and a proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach to ensure LaunchGood's continued adherence to regulatory requirements and ethical guidelines.


Deliverables

  • Executing and implementing platform-wide risk management policy as well as; maintaining compliance programs.
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with the prevention of money laundering and financing terrorism (AML/CFT). Ensures that qualified staff and adequate systems are in place for compliance with AML/CFT.
  • Responsible for developing and improving company policies and standards to outline ethical, safe, and efficient procedures.
  • Leading and managing LaunchGood’s enterprise risk management process, including providing oversight and strategic guidance in identifying, managing, and mitigating risks identified through the Enterprise Risk Management process.
  • Compliance Monitoring -- evaluating and measuring the state of compliance across the organization and sharing quarterly or monthly reports
  • Responsible for the effective management of an organization’s Corporate Ethics and Government Compliance Programs.
  • Investigations - managing investigations into wrongdoing and anything that violates regulatory/legal requirements.
  • Providing in house legal liaison where needed and managing relationship with any external law services


Additional Expectations:

  • Designing and maintaining all elements of sanctions compliance framework, assessing related sanctions risk exposure in keeping with the company’s risk appetite, overseeing the quality of sanctions control processes, and managing and mitigating those sanctions risks to protect the platform
  • Assisting in shaping the LaunchGood campaign approval policy, auditing and reviewing all payment flows and processes
  • Advising, training, and overseeing adherence to procedures and processes for compliance by front line units such as the Campaign Approval team to meet required standards;
  • Identify trends and patterns in alerts, dispositions, to develop risk mitigation and detection policies and keeping the company’s risk management framework up to date.
  • Working with our technology solution providers, and identifying others that enable effective and efficient compliance risk management across our company.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration to the platform's reputation and safeguarding LaunchGood by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, and adhering to Policy.
  • Working collaboratively with payment processors, underwriters, and regulators to showcase the strong implementation of the compliance risk process and procedures
  • Interacting with the Senior Management team to raise awareness of sanctions trends, emerging issues, remedial actions, or enhancements to the program.
  • Assessing the impact of issues/violations (legal/regulatory, policy, reputational, etc.), identifying process gaps, and helping define and manage disciplinary and corrective actions, as appropriate.
  • Participating in and managing, as appropriate, various internal and external assurance processes, e.g., self-assessment, internal audit or compliance assurance reviews.
  • Reviewing and investigating potential fraudulent transactions in accordance with the policy framework
  • Investigating potential concerns around campaign organizers intended goals, beneficiaries, and fund settlement path and process


Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree or certification in compliance or a related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a compliance leadership role, preferably in the financial or technology industry.
  • Expertise in Sanctions (OFAC, UN, EU), compliance laws, rules, regulations, and risks
  • Expertise in Anti- Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) and sanctions regulations and risks
  • Experience in managing regulatory exams and relationships with examiners, auditors, etc.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements including local and US laws, international and industry standards
  • Proficiency in compliance software and tools.

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging


General:

  • Embody the values of LaunchGood
  • Respond in a timely manner to all communication including emails, slack messages, etc. within 24-48 hours
  • Average of 40 hours per week for all LaunchGood related efforts
  • Report to COO and leadership team
  • May need to travel a couple of times of the year. Join us for team retreats as need be (ie. department retreats or larger annual team and leadership retreats)
  • Advocate for LaunchGood in your community by reaching out to potential campaigns on other sites as well as charities, organizations, and individuals.
