Job Description

The Hospital Cook at our facility is responsible for preparing and cooking food for patients and staff according to recipes and established standards. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to hygiene standards, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  1. Check Production Sheets: Review daily production sheets for hot food requirements for regular and modified diets, as well as cafeteria needs.

  2. Inspect Incoming Items: Ensure all incoming items in the Receiving Area meet required standards before acceptance.

  3. Ingredient Preparation: Assist Chef in obtaining raw ingredients and prepare them for cooking, supervising staff in measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes.

  4. Cooking Operations: Coordinate and monitor the preparation of various foods, adjusting and regulating temperature controls as needed.

  5. Food Quality: Taste and observe food being cooked, adding ingredients or seasoning as required. Oversee portioning, garnishing, and plating for patient meals.

  6. Serving Preparation: Apportion servings according to menu combinations or orders for patients and cafeteria needs.

  7. Cold Food Preparation: Ensure cooked and prepared meats and other items for cold food preparation are available and stored appropriately.

  8. Therapeutic Cooking: Follow established procedures for therapeutic cooking, keeping special cooked foods separated and labeled accordingly.

  9. Hygiene and Cleanliness: Maintain high standards of hygiene throughout food preparation, keeping work areas and equipment clean and orderly.

  10. Coverage and Training: Provide coverage for the Chef during rest days or leave. Ensure all production staff are properly trained on new equipment.

  11. Professional Development: Stay updated on current developments in the field by attending relevant meetings and reading industry publications.

  12. Compliance: Follow all hospital-related policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree/Diploma in professional cooking or High School Education plus formal training or apprenticeship in professional cooking.

  • Three (3) years of cooking experience with Associate Degree/Diploma or five (5) years with High School in a Hotel, Restaurant, or Institutional food service operation.

  • Proficiency in personal computer usage.

  • Ability to read and write in English.

  • Formal training or apprenticeship in professional cooking is required with High School education.

  • Knowledge in personal computer usage is necessary.

  • Must be able to read and write in English.
