Job Description

Islamic studies Teacher

Both online and on-site permanent vacancies available

Start date: September 2022

Hours: 10 hours a week

Reports to: Headteacher/ Deputy Headteacher

Salary range: £10 per hour online, £12 per hour on-site

Location: Green Lane Masjid & Community Centre, Birmingham, or remote.


Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning and Assessments

  1. Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the Madrasah’s programme of study
  2. Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
  3. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
  4. Make best use of all resources to support the attainment of students.
  5. Set high classroom standards and expectations which motivate and inspire pupils
  6. Manage pupil behaviour in the classroom and ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to
  7. Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
  8. Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
  9. Complete pupil reports according to Madrasah Reporting Guidelines
  10. Training, Development and Appraisal
  11. Attend all scheduled staff training sessions including day, weekend or evening courses
  12. Maintain updated individual Continuous Professional Development record
  13. Participate in further training and development, as required, in order to improve own teaching
  14. Actively engage with the madrasah’s monitoring and evaluation cycles in order to evaluate teaching performances
  15. Participate with performance management of professional practice


Personal and professional conduct

  1. Uphold public trust in the Masjid by maintaining high standards of etiquette and behaviour, within and outside the Madrasah premises
  2. Maintain professional regard for the ethos, policies and procedures of the Madrasah and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
  3. Relationships with others
  4. Collaborate and work with colleagues, and other relevant professionals within and beyond the Madrasah.
  5. Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents/carers, the
  6. community and Masjid and ensure all communication is consistent with the Madrasah’s ethos.


Health, Safety and Discipline

  1. Promote safeguarding
  2. Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
  3. Maintain good order and discipline in pupils, managing behaviour effectively, to ensure a good and safe learning environment
  4. Ensure the safety and good conduct among pupils by carrying out an appropriate share
  5. of supervision of pupils on their arrival at and departure from Madrasah


Other responsibilities

  1. Notify the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher as early as possible of any absence or lateness, and set appropriate cover work
  2. Register daily pupil attendance, and inform management of consistent pupil absences and lateness
  3. Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by the Headteacher
  4. Plan and participate in Madrasah Parents’ Evenings, award ceremonies, and assemblies as directed by the Headteacher/ Deputy Headteacher

CRITERIA - Qualifications and Experience

QUALITIES:

  1. In-depth knowledge of Islamic studies 
  2. Successful Islamic Studies teaching experience


CRITERIA - Skills and Knowledge

QUALITIES:

  1. Have a good command and understanding of Islamic studies and its science and the English language
  2. Ability to produce high quality teaching materials and share good practice
  3. IT literate and competent in using MS Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
