Job Description

1.   Purpose of the role

We are seeking a Senior Maintenance & Operations Operative to undertake general security and maintenance duties as directed by the Centre Manager, with a focus around general maintenance and repair works, health & safety, fire safety and operations support.

 

 

2.   Job Requirements

  • Undertake a range of general repair and maintenance duties, as directed by the Centre Manager, primarily scheduled maintenance checks of the main building and our estate, but also decorating, lifting, and manual handling. Where external sub-contractors are required, being a main point of contact for them and overseeing their work to completion.

 

  • To carry out regular maintenance checks and improvements of our estate & assets including health & safety, fire safety, fire alarm testing, roof maintenance, car park maintenance, kitchen maintenance, pat testing and similar.

 

  •  Support the Operations Team during major onsite and external events such as Celebrate Eid, seasonal conferences, exhibitions, and regular events onsite.

 

  • To support the Operations Team in serving GLMCC Funeral Service customers.

 

  •  Assist in maintaining the security of GLMCC estate at all times, establishing and ensuring the continuance of secure routines for the opening and locking of all buildings.

 

  •  Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of GLMCC estate at all times by establishing a strong working relationship with the cleaning staff. Whilst regular cleaning of the site is managed by a separate team, the Senior Maintenance & Operations Operative should ensure all maintenance & operations work are only considered complete when the areas are cleaned.

 

  •  Be a forward-facing member of the Operations Team, interacting with and supporting staff, sub-contractors, tenants, and the public.

 

  • Promote the aims, values, and the ethos of GLMCC both within their daily work and as representative of the organisation outside of work.

 

  • Operate within safeguarding guidelines and ensure the safety and wellbeing of site users at all times both by demonstrating an appropriate behaviour and attitude, and through delivering high standards of work

 

  • Ensure that all operations are carried out in accordance with all relevant health and safety legislation and carry out and observe risk assessments in the department to ensure that all hazards are identified and all risks managed in accordance with statutory requirements.

 

  • To identify appropriate maintenance and repair solutions proposing them to the Centre Manager

 

 

3.   Personal specification

 

Qualifications

·       Degree or equivalent trade qualification (desirable not essential)

 

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • To demonstrate skills and/or previous experience in commercial building maintenance, general building repairs and maintenance. e.g. plastering, electrics, decorating or similar tasks.
  •  To be flexible, able and willing to assist with a wide range of repair and maintenance duties, as directed by the Centre Manager or Deputy.
  •  To understand the principles of lifting and manual handling and apply them to their work.
  • To be physically fit and able to lift/carry heavy and bulky items of equipment and/or materials.
  • To be able to work on their own initiative and to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • To be able to apply Health and Safety regulations to their role, including risk assessment
  • To have an interest in the needs of people with disabilities and be enthusiastic about working with a diverse range of people.
  • To be able to work as part of a team, demonstrating respect for co-workers and college staff and visitors at all times and adhering to GLMCC values.
  • To understand safeguarding principles and how they apply to their role.
