Job Description
The Specialist Radiology is responsible for the overall operations of a designated department and for the clinical management of its medical staff.
The Specialist Radiology shall actively participate in all accreditation and licensing processes and facilitate its understanding and acceptance by the medical staff of the department
Key responsibilities of the role
Work when necessary with the Department of Health and complete documentation that may be required by the authorities
Identify in writing the services to be provided by the department.
Deliver best-in-class Radiology Services
Ensure that departmental documents describe the current and planned services provided by their department, guide the provision of identified services and address the staff knowledge and skills needed to assess and to meet patient needs.
Ensure that services are coordinated and integrated within the department and with other departments.
Recommend space, medical technology, equipment, staffing, and other resources needed by the department or service and have a process in place to respond to shortages.
Recommend criteria for selecting the department's or service’s professional staff and choose or recommend individuals who meet those criteria.
Participate to the appointment, credentialing and privileging processes of the doctors of the department as well as to their reappointment and renewal of clinical privileges.
Ensures that new clinical staff members are oriented to the department and to their job responsibilities and any specific assignments, and provide orientation and training for all staff of the duties and responsibilities for the department or service to which they are assigned.
Participate actively to the ongoing professional practice monitoring and evaluation of the medical staff members of their department.
Agree with the Finance Department on departmental targets and participate to the monitoring of the activity of their department.
Design and implement processes that support continuity and coordination of patient care. Organize the schedule of the department (on-calls, on-duties, consultations, rounds, annual leaves) to ensure continuity of care.
Ensure that adequate professional reports such as medical reports, discharge summaries, and specialist’s opinions are prepared in a timely manner.
Ensure that the rights of patients are respected in their department and that all staff are knowledgeable about those rights and can explain their responsibilities.
Identify the most common barriers to access and receive care, and develop and implement a process to overcome or limit those barriers or limit their impact on the delivery of services.
Ensure that all patients in their department are informed about their rights in a manner they can understand.
Ensure that patient informed consents are obtained through the process defined by the hospital and carried out by trained staff in a manner and language the patient can understand.
Ensure that informed consents are obtained before surgery, anaesthesia, sedation, use of blood and blood products and other high-risk treatments and procedures. Define the minimum content of assessments for inpatients and outpatients.
Other responsibilities
Ensure that there is a process to integrate and coordinate the care provided to each patient, and that an individual plan of care is developed and documented for each patient.
Ensure that Guidelines and Procedures guide the care of high-risk patients and the provision of high-risk services in the department.
Ensure that patients are supported in managing pain effectively.
Ensure that end-of-life care is adequately carried out in the department.
Ensure that health professionals caring for the patient collaborate to provide education that supports patient and family participation in care decisions.
Select and implement clinical practice guidelines, and related clinical pathways, and/or clinical protocols, to guide clinical care.
Ensure that staff members who provide patient care and other staff identified by the hospital are trained and demonstrate appropriate competence in resuscitative techniques.
Ensure that patient’s rights to privacy and confidentiality of care and information are respected and that patients’ information privacy and confidentiality are maintained by medical staff.
Ensure that a clinical record is initiated and maintained for every patient assessed or treated in their department. This clinical record contains sufficient information to identify the patient, support the diagnosis, justify the treatment, document the course and results of treatment.
Ensure that the hospital standardized diagnosis codes, procedure codes, symbols, abbreviations and definitions are used in their department.
Compliance guidelines
They shall ensure that all Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Guidelines in the department are written, complied with, monitored and revised appropriately.
Ensure that all patients treated in the department receive the best possible care through the continuous improvement of quality, patient safety, clinical governance, clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction
Improve quality and patient safety by participating in hospitalwide improvement priorities and in monitoring and improving patient care specific to their department.
Select and implement quality and patient safety measures specific to the scope of services provided by the department and useful in the evaluation of the doctors, nurses, and other professional staff participating in the clinical care processes.
Make recommendations to the Medical Director on all matters related to the quality of medical care, patient safety, customer service and hospital processes.
Plan, collaboratively with the Medical Director, a Continuous Medical Education (CME) programme for the medical staff of the department
Supervise the training and practice of allocated trainee medical officers and students, including the provision of appraisals.
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
Graduate of formal recognized allopathic Medical Schools/College of Medicine which must be accredited by the concerned issuing authority of that country
Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)
Completing a Full time specialized training program in Radiology of not less than three (3) years
Recognized Medical Specialty qualification as listed in UAE PQR.
A Minimum of 3 years of post qualification experience in Radiology
Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
Physical requirements
Potential of working irregular hours including on-call hours.
Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting and walk-ing, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout the facility and lift up to 13 kgs.
In addition must be able to assist in evacuation procedures by being able to assist in lifting, pushing and moving patients, medical equipment and supplies if required in emergency situations.
