Overview / Job Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver the curriculum appropriate to the age, ability group, and subjects taught.

  • Preparation and Development: Prepare and develop teaching materials, programs, and pastoral arrangements as needed.

  • Accountability: Be accountable for the attainment, progress, and outcomes of pupils.

  • Understanding Pupil Capabilities: Be aware of pupils' capabilities and prior knowledge, planning and differentiating teaching to build on these effectively.

  • Assessment and Monitoring: Use a variety of observation, assessment, monitoring, and recording strategies to set challenging learning objectives for pupils of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and dispositions.

  • Productive Use of Assessment: Make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure pupils' progress.

  • Feedback: Provide regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, encouraging pupils to reflect on their progress and take responsibility for their own learning.

  • Data Utilization: Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons.

  • Homework and Activities: Set homework and plan out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend pupils' knowledge and understanding.

  • Student Progress Information: Utilize student progress information to improve teaching and learning, motivate students, inform parents, provide necessary references for DSIB annual inspections, and advise the School Board of Governors.

  • Special Educational Needs: Understand the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs, gifted and talented, EAL, and disabilities. Use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.

  • Literacy Standards: Promote high standards of literacy, including correct spoken English.

  • Examinations and Assessments: Participate in examinations and assessments as outlined in the teachers' manual.

Behavior and Safety

  • Safe Environment: Establish a safe, purposeful, and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect, with a framework for discipline using consistent praise, sanctions, and rewards.

  • Class Management: Manage classes effectively, using approaches that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils.

  • Positive Role Model: Demonstrate positive attitudes, values, and behavior consistently.

  • Behavior Expectations: Maintain high expectations of behavior, promoting self-control and independence among learners.

  • Welfare and Safeguarding: Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, raising any concerns following school protocols.

  • Playground Duties: Carry out playground and other duties as directed.

Team Working and Collaboration

  • Team Collaboration: Work as a team member, sharing effective practices with colleagues.

  • Professional Development: Contribute to the selection and development of teachers and support staff, including induction and assessment.

  • Meetings Participation: Participate in relevant meetings and professional development opportunities related to learners, curriculum, or school organization.

  • Support Learning: Ensure colleagues are appropriately involved in supporting learning.

  • Cover for Absence: Cover for absent colleagues as required.

  • Curriculum and Pastoral Development: Engage in the review, development, and management of curriculum and pastoral activities.

Administration

  • Attendance and Supervision: Register attendance and supervise students as appropriate.

  • Training Participation: Engage fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or resulting from appraisals.

  • Review and Refine Practices: Regularly review and refine teaching and assessment procedures based on their effectiveness and feedback.

  • Additional Duties: Perform reasonable duties as requested by the head teacher.
