Job Description

The School Librarian is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive library program that supports the academic and personal growth of all students. This includes a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere: Cultivate a warm, positive, and student-centered library environment that fosters a love of reading and learning.

  • Library Operations & Management: Effectively operate and supervise the library, ensuring its smooth daily function.

  • Collaboration with Teachers: Partner with classroom teachers to develop and deliver engaging library skills lessons that align with the curriculum.

  • Reading & Research Programs: Design and implement creative and effective reading and research incentive programs to motivate students.

  • Collection Development: Evaluate, select, and requisition new library resources to ensure a diverse and relevant collection.

  • Instructional Materials: Assist teachers in selecting books and other instructional materials that support the curriculum and make library resources readily available.

  • Keeping Staff Informed: Proactively keep teachers and staff informed about new library materials and resources.

  • Cataloging & Information Management: Maintain a comprehensive and user-friendly system for cataloging all library materials and instruct students and teachers on its effective use.

  • Inventory Management: Conduct annual inventories to maintain accurate records of all library materials.

  • Collaboration & Planning: Work alongside teachers to plan assignments that encourage students to utilize library resources extensively.

  • Student Behavior Management: Promote appropriate student conduct within the library facilities.

  • Library Committee Leadership: Chair the library committee and guide its initiatives.

  • Student Guidance: Provide guidance and support to students in selecting books and other library materials that cater to their interests.

  • Library Displays & Exhibits: Create engaging and frequently changing book displays and exhibits to spark student interest in library resources.

  • Technology Integration: Develop and enhance the technological aspects of the library to provide students with modern learning tools.
