Academic Advisor

The Academic Advising Center (AAC) at the American University in Dubai (AUD) is seeking a qualified and experienced Academic Advisor to join their team.

About the Position:

This is a full-time, professional staff position. The Academic Advisor will provide program-specific academic advising to undergraduate students, helping them navigate their academic journey towards successful graduation. Responsibilities include:

• Academic Advising:

  • Guide students in course selection that aligns with their program requirements, prerequisites, and sequencing.

  • Assist students in planning their study paths for timely program completion.

  • Help undecided students and those considering program changes to find suitable programs matching their interests and goals.

  • Provide guidance on course loads, withdrawals, and other academic issues, particularly for students facing difficulties.

• Teaching:

  • Carry a reduced teaching load (2 courses per semester, 1 course in summer).

Qualifications:

• Master's degree (Doctorate considered) from a Western accredited university (required). Specific degree requirements based on area of advising:

  • Business Academic Advisors: MBA or equivalent.

  • IT Academic Advisor: MEng, MS, or equivalent.

  • Interior Design/Visual Communication Academic Advisor: MFA or equivalent.

• Excellent understanding of program structures and curricula in your assigned discipline (required).

• Previous training in academic advising and significant advising experience in a Western higher education system (required).

• Previous teaching experience with evidence of strong teaching effectiveness (required).

• Excellent written and oral communication skills (required).

• Dedication to student success and a strong understanding of student needs (required).

• Ability to interact positively with a culturally diverse student body (experience a plus) (required).

• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, faculty, and staff (required).
