Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) for the Study Group centre.

  • Liaise with College Guardians and other guardians for under 18 students, monitoring their attendance and providing pastoral support.

  • Implement a structured tutorial framework addressing individual and group needs.

  • Monitor academic and pastoral welfare, signposting students to appropriate services.

  • Provide counseling to students on welfare and health issues, maintaining accurate records.

  • Monitor student attendance, issuing warnings as necessary.

  • Assist in student induction activities and social events.

  • Keep records of Extenuating Circumstances (EC) submissions and attend relevant meetings.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (Essential)

  • Tutoring Experience (Essential)

  • First Aid certification (Desirable)

  • Risk Assessment Training (Desirable)

  • Prevent Duty training (Desirable)

Experience Required:

  • Experience in welfare within a Further Education environment

  • Providing pastoral support to international students

  • Partnership working or management in the education sector

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency in data and reporting systems

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of Data Protection Act confidentiality requirements

  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and data sharing requirements

  • Best practices in providing pastoral support to international students

  • Data analysis skills for identifying areas of improvement

  • Proficiency in student management systems (e.g., Progresso)

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel

  • Excellent written English communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
