Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Centre in Bahrain are looking to expand to hire a full-time Computer Science tutor. Candidates who can additionally teach Math's or Statistics will also be of interest.

You will work with the STEM team and colleagues across the center to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmed in line with our teaching, learning and assessment strategy, as well as broader scholarship.

You will collaborate and contribute to curriculum development while being aligned to relevant academic regulations.

This purpose will be in line with our aim to deliver an outstanding and consistent student experience.

You will also contribute directly to student support and to the development and implementation of effective teaching practices across the center.

As a tutor, you will contribute to the design, development and production of teaching and learning materials, and delivery across a range of Computer Science modules at the equivalent of SCQF level 7

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of STEM you will be responsible for the design, delivery, and development of modules in Computer Science.
Student learning experience

  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by International Study Centre in Bahrain.

  • Prepare and deliver teaching lectures, seminars, and tutorial sessions, with variable hours up to 25 hours per week.

  • Write and prepare examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment.

  • Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including tutorials and writing regular student reports.

  • Develop and update course material for modules and teaching sessions, including module material for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

  • Work with the center's Student Experience team in the delivery of induction, orientation, and registration program.

  • Notify and liaise with colleagues, where necessary, to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression support.

  • Track students’ academic journey and identify and implement appropriate intervention strategies to support on-going learning.

  • Act as a Learning Development tutor/ Skills for Success tutor for one or more groups of students, if required

  • Take part in bi-termly learning conversations with students to provide progression and engagement guidance and support

  • Follow center protocol and liaise with colleagues and line manager according to procedure, in particular regarding compliance processes such as class timetabling, attendance and engagement monitoring

Quality and standards assurance and enhancement

  • Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses in alignment with academic policies.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students’ attendance and performance.

  • Attend and contribute to standardization, moderation, and other quality assurance meetings.

Academic management and personal development

  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the program and student life cycle in Bahrain while collaborating with colleagues in the UK to ensure a consistent approach.

  • Participate in governance structures, including attending all compulsory meetings.

  • Maintain and submit accurate and timely records of teaching and other activities.

  • Participate in regular training and development activities and maintain a log of these activities.

  • Carry out any other duty as required from time to time by the Head of STEM or Head of Curriculum and Progression.

ABOUT YOU:
Qualifications & Training:

You will have experience of or a commitment to working with international students and have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, plus a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related subject area OR considerable relevant industry experience. (Current postgraduate students with appropriate experience will also be considered)

  • A relevant teaching qualification, or be in the process of achieving this. Alternatively, must have significant experience working with students.

  • Fluent spoken and written English.

Experience Required:

  • Experience of teaching computer science modules in the UK higher or further education sector, including lab-based teaching, or relevant industry experience that translates well to the classroom.

  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g. Java, Python)

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment.

  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc.).

  • A student-centered approach.

  • A commitment to continuous professional development.

  • Strong record-keeping skills.

  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlines.

  • Enthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player.

  • Innovation and creativity in developing and executing student enhancement activities.
