Job Description
ResponsibilitiesPromote Health and Safety in the workplace; ensuring compliance with all Maaden's safety policies and regulations;
Identify and promote continuous plant improvement in order to achieve and surpass metallurgical KPIs;
Provide day to day technical metallurgical support and coaching to plant operators, control room operators and technicians.
Monitor and evaluate metallurgical performance; and when required, conduct test/survey programs to improve.
Conduct plant metallurgical maintenance duties (i.e. inspection of cyclones, screen panels).
Conduct belt cut sampling and/or other physical sampling around the plant.
Conduct inspections, calibrations, and light maintenance duties on metallurgical testing equipment (i.e. pH meter calibrations, analyzers, and samplers).
Conduct QAQC sampling and checks on delivered reagents.
Monthly GIC sampling and sample preparation.
Liaise with Procurement to maintain sufficient inventory of reagents and grinding media.
Ensure sufficient oxygen for running the POX.
Liaise with external laboratories and consultants for process improvement.
Maintain and optimize mill throughput, recovery, and costs.
Liaise with Mining, Geology and Plant Operations for effective production planning
Prepare daily shift metallurgical balances, required operational reports and guidelines for operators;
Manage Plant's Metallurgical lab and site Assay lab;
Supervise and mentor a multi-cultural workforce - Assay lab crew and plant technicians;
Develop, review and implement Lab and Process Plant operating procedures;
Schedule and monitor month-end GIC sampling, ensure mass balance analysis and reports are accurate;
Coordinate the Metallurgical data processing and reporting;
Review technical reports from Plant Metallurgists and Technicians;
Liaise with Environmental Department and schedule environmental compliance protocols for effluent disposal;
Manage the safe use of nuclear devices in the Process Plant
Collaborate effectively with the team to ensure smooth transition between rotations in order to provide continuous operational support.
Ensure training needs of staff are met and maintain a motivated workforce.
Develop and manage reporting systems, such as financial, forecast, engineering, and metallurgical data.
QualificationsPossess a university degree in Minerals/Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering from an accredited institute.
5 years' mining process plant operations experience in base or precious metals processing.
Proven plant operation experience in Comminution and Flotation, Pressure Oxidation, CIL, Neutralization, Paste Treatment and TMF.
Detailed knowledge of mineralogy and its effects on plant performance.
Experience in process control and continuous improvement would be as asset.
Strong technical and analytical skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask and prioritize work, self-driven.
Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analyses.
Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions to improve performance or compliance;
Able and willing to work effectively in remote areas and under varying weather conditions.
Process engineering experience, including material balances, test work, equipment sizing and recovery analysis.
Proven technical solid technical and analytical skills combined with sound practical judgement.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and coaching skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural team; and work effectively with cross shift and other departments.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
