  2. Utilize Pilotage Techniques: Apply pilotage techniques based on visual reference points and local knowledge of tides, currents, and depths to maneuver the vessel safely.

  3. Port Representation: Act as a representative of the port's jurisdiction upon the vessel's entry into territorial waters, establishing communication between port authorities and the vessel's owner/master.

  4. Docking Operations: Direct the movements of tugs, line boats, and mooring teams to dock the ship alongside berths and sea terminals securely.

  5. Emergency Response: Assume the role of on-seen commander during emergencies, coordinating actions to minimize damages and ensure safety aboard the ship.

  6. Cargo Supervision: In certain cases, act as a loading master to oversee cargo transfer operations at sea terminals or during adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holder of a maritime certificate of competency required by the port authority.

  • Class 1 certificate of competency (Master Mariner) or equivalent approved by the pilotage authority.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • 10 years of sea experience, including 2 years in command of deep draft ships or harbour tugs in the relevant port.
