Job Description

As a Terrestrial Ecologist at WSP Middle East, you will be responsible for conducting biodiversity surveys and monitoring activities in KSA. Your role will involve preparing technical reports detailing monitoring activities, conducting field surveys, collaborating with team members, utilizing topographic maps and GPS devices, coordinating field crew activities, conducting research and data analysis, communicating with clients and authority representatives, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare technical reports detailing monitoring activities.

  • Conduct field surveys for biodiversity monitoring.

  • Survey and ground-truthing of national park boundaries.

  • Collaborate with team members in project deliverables development.

  • Utilize topographic maps, GPS devices, and other tools during fieldwork activities.

  • Safely operate vehicles, including 4-wheel drive vehicles, for fieldwork and site visits.

  • Coordinate field crew activities, including mobilization and data collection efforts.

  • Conduct research, data synthesis, and basic analysis to support project objectives.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and other authority representatives throughout project lifecycles.

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and oversee their implementation in the field.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, or related subject with a strong focus on biodiversity monitoring.

  • Fluent in Arabic, both spoken and written.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles.

  • Strong knowledge of biodiversity monitoring methods, fieldwork experience, and data handling and analysis.

  • Experience in drafting Biodiversity Monitoring Reports with little or no supervision.

  • Experience managing other field staff.

  • Willingness and availability to be based in a remote location in KSA for a period of 2 years.

  • Experience in designing and planning biodiversity surveys.

  • Proficiency in GPS devices, digital data collection, and mapping software such as ArcGIS.

  • Strong report writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to write concise reports in English.

  • Team player, with the ability to work comfortably within multi-cultural teams.

  • 10-12 years of experience.
