Chemical technician Grade

The Chemical Technician Grade (1) will report directly to the Lead Chemical Engineer. This position involves being responsible for chemical preparations, water sampling, chlorine handling, material transfer, housekeeping, emergency preparedness/response, loading and unloading of chemicals required for the operation of the UF/RO system. The main objective is to sustain 24-hour uninterrupted operation within the boundaries of operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Chemical Technician Grade (1) is responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

• Full responsibility over chemical preparation activities, loading & unloading of chemicals under the instruction of the chemical coordinator/technical support engineer.

• Collection of water samples, chemical product samples, and safe transfer of samples from collection points to the lab.

• Loading and unloading of chemicals, material transfer from one location to another.

• Support to maintenance team during plant shutdown and other major activities.

• Safe disposal of unused chemicals.

• Understanding of chemical classification & hazardous materials, usage of SCBA and PPE.

• Responsible for chlorine handling, including tonner changeover, isolation, and emergency preparedness/response/rescue.

• Assist with lab analysis, maintenance, and housekeeping of chemical building & storage locations.

• Facilitate and maintain high EHS performance on-site, strictly following site EHS regulations, knowledge of hazardous chemicals, confined space activities, chemical spill control, LOTO procedure, and evacuation & emergency preparedness procedures.

• Optimize and assist with the development of operational quality system procedures/guidelines/documents for water treatment.

• Adhere to EHS & Quality processes and procedures, check job sites for potential hazards, and report any violations.

• Maintain appropriate housekeeping for plant facilities, cooperating with other departments.

• Ability to work independently most of the time but report to supervisors.

• Determine the reasons for any malfunctions of systems or components to solve the problem.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Middle school/Matriculation/Grade 10/grade 12. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements will be considered.

• At least 5-7 years of work experience in chemical preparation, especially in the field of sewage treatment, ultrafiltration & reverse osmosis plants, or any chemical industries.

• Able to understand & communicate in English.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

• Experience in water/wastewater treatment plant activities.

• Working experience in GCC countries.
