Head of English

Study Group, a global leader in providing transformative learning experiences for international students, is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as Head of English. This pivotal role involves planning, managing, and overseeing the delivery of English modules, providing leadership to a team of English tutors, and contributing to the overall management of academic programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

Line Management and Personal Development:

• Manage a team of English Tutors to ensure optimal student outcomes and experience.

• Conduct effective performance management, including setting objectives, reviewing performance, and facilitating personal development activities.

• Support recruitment efforts and foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Academic and Operational Management:

• Plan and oversee the delivery of teaching and assessments, ensuring alignment with curriculum content and deadlines.

• Develop comprehensive documentation for each course and module, review regularly for accuracy and relevance.

• Ensure timely preparation and setting of assessments, provide constructive feedback to students.

• Teach modules as required and maintain accurate records of teaching and assessment activities.

• Contribute to the design of new courses and methods of delivery and assessment.

• Update and maintain the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to enhance the student learning experience.

Academic Standards, Quality Assurance, and Enhancement:

• Ensure compliance with relevant quality frameworks, policies, and procedures.

• Lead standardisation, moderation, and verification meetings to maintain academic standards.

• Implement actions from the Centre Action Plan, support continuous improvement initiatives.

• Liaise with External Examiners as required, monitor teaching and learning activities, and support tutors in enhancing their practices.

• Analyse data and feedback to monitor student progress and support remedial actions where necessary.

Qualifications & Training:

• Master’s degree.

• Relevant Teaching qualification (DELTA, TEFL, MA Linguistics).

• Experience in leading and managing a team (essential).

Experience Required:

• Experience teaching international students in UK higher or further education.

• Experience planning and running complex education courses.

• Experience in subject area teaching.

• Desired experience in line management within an educational setting.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning in subject area.

• Ability to operate within quality assurance frameworks.

• Familiarity with relevant standards and benchmarks in higher education.

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to lead a diverse team.

• Flexibility, willingness to work under tight deadlines, and a student-centered approach.

• Enthusiasm and motivation to drive team performance and student success.
