Overview / Job Responsibilities
Teaching
Understand Diverse Needs: Recognize and address the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs, gifted and talented students, EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners, and those with disabilities. Utilize and evaluate distinctive teaching methods to engage and support them.
Promote Literacy Standards: Ensure high standards of literacy, including the correct use of spoken English, are promoted and maintained across all subjects.
Utilize Student Progress Information: Use student progress data to improve teaching and learning, motivate students, inform parents, provide references for DSIB annual inspections, and advise the School Board of Governors.
Deliver Curriculum: Implement the curriculum effectively for the age and ability group/subject(s) taught.
Prepare Teaching Materials: Develop teaching materials, programs, and pastoral arrangements as necessary.
Accountability: Be accountable for the attainment, progress, and outcomes of students.
Plan Teaching: Plan teaching by considering students' capabilities and prior knowledge, and differentiate instruction accordingly.
Assessment Strategies: Use various observation, assessment, monitoring, and recording strategies to set challenging learning objectives and monitor student progress and attainment.
Use of Assessment Data: Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan lessons.
Homework and Out-of-Class Activities: Set homework and plan activities to consolidate and extend students' knowledge and understanding.
Feedback: Provide regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to feedback and reflect on their progress.
Examinations and Assessments: Participate in examination and assessment arrangements as outlined in the teachers' manual.
Behavior and Safety
Effective Class Management: Use approaches appropriate to students' needs to inspire, motivate, and challenge them.
Maintain Good Relationships: Maintain good relationships with students, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary.
Positive Role Model: Demonstrate positive attitudes, values, and behavior expected of students.
High Behavior Expectations: Promote self-control and independence among learners.
Safe and Stimulating Environment: Establish a safe, purposeful, and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect, with a consistent framework for discipline.
Safeguard Welfare: Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people, following school protocols/procedures.
Duty Participation: Perform playground and other duties as directed.
Team Working and Collaboration
Team Member: Collaborate with colleagues to share and develop effective practices.
Professional Development of Staff: Assist in the selection and professional development of teachers and support staff, including induction and assessment of new teachers.
Meetings and Development Opportunities: Participate in relevant meetings and professional development opportunities related to learners, curriculum, or school organization.
Support Learning: Ensure colleagues understand their roles in supporting learning.
Cover for Absent Colleagues: Cover for absent colleagues as required.
Curriculum and Pastoral Development: Participate in the review, development, and management of curriculum and pastoral functions of the school.
Fulfill Wider Professional Responsibilities
Deploy Support Staff: Utilize support staff effectively.
External Communication and Cooperation: Communicate and cooperate with relevant external bodies.
Parent Communication: Communicate effectively with parents regarding students' achievements and well-being.
Positive Contribution: Make a positive contribution to the wider school life and ethos.
Professional Relationships: Develop effective professional relationships collaboratively.
Administration
Register and Supervise: Register attendance and supervise students as appropriate.
Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative and organizational tasks as required by the teachers' manual.
Professional Development
Participate in Training: Engage fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or resulting from appraisals.
Review and Refine Teaching Practices: Regularly review and refine teaching and assessment procedures based on their effectiveness and feedback.
Other
Additional Duties: Perform reasonable duties as requested by the head teacher.
Professional Conduct: Maintain high standards of conduct and punctuality, adhering to school policies and practices.

Key Accountabilities
Create and distribute educational content (notes, summaries, assignments, etc.).
Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders in regular meetings.
Plan and execute in-class and outdoor educational activities and events.
Ensure equality of opportunity for all students and be responsible for their learning and achievement.
Assess and record student progress, providing grades and feedback.
Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom.
Uphold high standards in work and conduct, treating students with dignity and respect.
Collaborate with learners, parents, governors, staff, and external agencies in the best interest of students.
Observe and report student behavior and any suspicions of neglect or abuse.
Enhance professional skills through seminars, conferences, etc.
Act in line with statutory frameworks and school policies.
