Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor/Lead primary responsibility is validating and authorizing the test results obtained from sample analysis, as well as consulting with the Senior Scientist and remaining informed of their activities to satisfy the needs of the project’s Stakeholders and other customers.

  • To propose to the Laboratory Manager new test requirements and their importance in terms of technicality and commercial acceptance.

  • To source out the state-of-the-art technologies available from time to time and initiate to implement them in the facility.

  • Foster collaborative and productive research environment.

  • Support the Laboratory Manager and assisted by the Senior Scientists for smooth operation of the lab.

Lead projects to support research and development efforts, including method development, optimization, and troubleshooting in conjunction with the senior scientist.Supervise, provide training, and periodically assess the competency of personnel in the department.Responsible for the design planning, and analysis of experimental protocols. Author and review technical documents, including method protocols, validation reports, and SOPs.

Perform complex analyses using a variety of analytical techniques such as ICPMS, ICPOES, IC, TOC, Elemental analyzer, Microwave digester, etc.

  1. Publish research papers and technical reports of your findings.

  2. Provide technical support to the team, establish latest techniques and processes in the responsible section based on the requirements.

  3. Provide scientific advice to internal and external decision makers within the scope of the analysis.

  4. Identify quality indicators for meaningful monitoring and trending laboratory test results to be included in dashboards for decision makers.

  5. Consider risk assessment in decision making processes.

  6. Responsible for writing and reviewing technical SOPs in area of responsibility.

  7. Report, investigate, and monitor errors and incidents as per policies.

  8. Assist safety officer in risk and COSHH assessments in area of responsibility.

  9. Ensuring safe practice is adhered in the laboratory.

  10. Work in conjunction with Laboratory manager, providing cover if required.

  11. Responsible for reviewing and authorizing results provided by the senior scientist.

  12. Responsible for competency assessment documentation in line with ISO.

  13. Ensure correct procedures are adhered in Inorganic chemistry laboratory.

  14. Liaise with Equipment Engineer and assure proper maintenance and calibration of equipment.

  15. Liaise with Facility and Procurement team to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory

  16. Liaise with clients to understand their needs, providing technical support and ensuring satisfaction with lab services.

  17. Assist laboratory manager in the development and management of the laboratory budget, monitoring expenses and optimizing resource use.

  18. Cross functional collaboration with other departments to support overall organizational goals and projects.

  19. Ability to lead and supervise projects that deliver results.

  20. Manage day-to-day staffing with accountability to guarantee safe service delivery and TAT upkeep.

  21. Participate and in some cases be responsible for the recruitment of Personnel.

  22. Increase the technical capabilities of the laboratory through collaboration and mentoring.

  23. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking to solve complex technical problems.

  24. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadline.

  25. Good interpersonal skills.

  26. To attend, and chair, departmental and inter departmental meetings.

  27. To deputise for Lab manager as and whenever required.

  28. Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars, or online education units.

  29. Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to sensitive information whether formally or informally recorded.

  30. Promote and maintain quality in all services, ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place, follow SOPs and Best Practices as instructed in the relevant laboratory documents, and ensure that SOPs and Quality Assurance tests are maintained.

  31. Complies with all ISO17025 requirements and Laboratory quality management system.

  32. Follow SOPs and Best Laboratory Practices.

  33. Participate in Proficiency testing, Blind testing, or any other laboratory quality control programs.

  34. Assist the QM in ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented, and changes to practice identified where necessary including implementation of corrective action require to improve quality.

  35. Participate in and undertake an audit (External and Internal).

  36. Participate in activities aimed at improving the quality of workflows and processes or improving parts of existing protocols.

  37. Collaborate with the Training Manager in planning and organizing personnel training.

  38. Monitor KPIs for the Inorganic chemistry section, ensuring TATs are maintained.

  39. Act as a link between the Chemistry Laboratory, other RASID departments

  40. .Participate in Health and Safety activities.

  41. Participate in Risk assessment and Hazard identification in the area of responsibility.

  42. Complies with the RASID Health and Safety requirements.

  43. Act as key contact and laboratory link for Infection Control.

  44. Ensure safe practices are adhere to while working in Laboratory.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry, with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry or other any relevant science or engineering discipline.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in a chemistry lab environment, ideally in water or wastewater analysis laboratory.

  • Three or more years of supervisory experience.

  • Evidence of scientific contributions in terms of publication/achievements.

  • Capable of managing a team of 20 staff.

  • Advanced working knowledge of Inorganic chemistry automated and manual techniques.

  • Standard inorganic chemistry laboratory practices, techniques, equipment maintenance, testing and analyses.

  • Principles and practices of supervision, training and evaluation in a laboratory environment.

  • Knowledge and experience in a wide range of analytical systems, techniques, and quality assurance.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Best practices for method and result data handling and information management.

  • Infection control and safety precaution for routine lab operations.

  • Knowledge of ISO and UKAS Accreditation.

  • Knowledge of LEAN.

  • Knowledge of control of change and change of management.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Knowledge of preparing and presenting reports.

  • Experience in incident reporting, investigation, and monitoring.

  • Ability and experience in supervising and training other personnel.

  • Analyse experimental data using appropriate statistical methods.

  • Write and review scientific manuscripts, grant applications and technical reports.
