Job Description
Wood is seeking experienced Lead Pipeline Engineers to join our team at the Abu Dhabi Engineering Center. The role involves assuming responsibility for pipeline engineering scopes, ensuring quality and adherence to standards, and mentoring junior engineers. This position requires expertise in oil and gas production facility development, from feasibility to detailed design phases.
Responsibilities:
General:
Take ownership of assigned pipeline engineering work scopes.
Schedule and monitor the quality of work procedures.
Mentor and coach junior pipeline engineers; provide guidance to peers.
Execute pipeline discipline work within project teams, supporting oil and gas production facility development.
Plan, budget, organize, and control pipeline engineering deliverables for projects.
Prepare and ensure the conformity of pipeline deliverables with engineering codes, standards, and client policies.
Liaise with client engineering, operations, and maintenance staff to ensure project completion consistency.
Provide technical advice and solutions for various technical problems within the discipline.
Coordinate with other disciplines throughout design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up phases.
Identify areas of concern regarding progress or quality; recommend corrective actions.
Promote and enforce safe behavior at all times.
Technical:
Collaborate within the pipeline design team on feasibility, conceptual, basic engineering, FEED, detailed design, and EPC/EPCM projects.
Develop the pipeline design basis.
Perform pipeline route selection, right-of-way width selection, crossing method selection, trenching/backfilling design.
Conduct site visits, surveys, and data collection.
Perform pipeline route selection and reconnaissance.
Conduct mechanical calculations for line pipes, bend material grade, wall thickness, expansion/anchor forces, buoyancy, ovality/buckling checks, road/rail crossing, river crossing, and fault crossing analysis.
Conduct pipeline stress analysis using Caesar II/AutoPIPE software.
Knowledgeable in pipeline design, materials, construction, fabrication, inspection, and testing.
Prepare pipeline materials/items specifications, coating specifications, inspection, testing, and installation specifications/datasheets.
Prepare pipeline material requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations/analysis, and review vendor data.
Provide material take-off and bill of materials.
Ensure awareness of environmental aspects (ISO14001) and safety aspects (HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, risk analysis) in oil and gas design.
Proficiency in MS Excel, Mathcad, Caesar II/AutoPIPE; awareness in ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Approximately 15 years of total experience with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience as a Lead Pipeline Engineer in an engineering design company.
Operational support, construction, and commissioning experience.
Experience working with multinational and multicultural project teams preferred.
Previous experience working in the Middle East advantageous.
Experience in sour service operations advantageous.
Thorough knowledge of pipeline engineering design and analysis fundamentals.
Familiarity with relevant international codes and standards.
Proficient in software packages used for pipeline engineering design.
